Overview

The Salvation Army is looking for reliable individuals to ring the bell this Christmas season.  

 

You will be tasked with spreading the holiday cheer by representing The Salvation Army and ringing bells for our Christmas Kettle Campaign at various locations in Connecticut or Rhode Island. You will be responsible for keeping the Kettle attended at all times and greeting everyone with warmth and friendliness. Bell ringer begins shortly after Thanksgiving and will end just before Christmas.

 

Your contributions will make a real difference, helping to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, support the sick, and comfort the lonely this holiday season.

The Salvation Army Red Kettle | Christmas 2023 - Campaign

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to guidelines for staff responsibilities.
  • Arrive on time and accurately complete a timecard.
  • Be familiar with some of The Salvation Army's social service work in the community (such as locations, services, etc.) to address common questions from the public.
  • Be neat, well-groomed, and dressed appropriately according to The Salvation Army standards. 
  • Be prepared to wear clothing that will keep you warm for prolonged periods.
  • Do not eat, text, read, wear headphones, or smoke near the kettle.
  • Greet each passerby in a friendly and respectful manner while ringing the bell.
  • Keep the area around the kettle tidy and free of clutter.
  • Never leave the kettle unattended.
  • Smile, make eye contact, and be courteous,
  • Stand by the kettle at all times; avoid sitting or slouching on a chair or the ground.

Qualifications

  • Ability to abide by the required dress code,
  • Ability to adhere to all health and safety protocols.
  • Ability to conduct all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.
  • Ability to follow instructions with limited supervision.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to politely greet and respond to the general public.
  • Ability to ring a small handbell for the duration of the shift.
  • Ability to stand in one location for extended periods in outside weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift filled kettles, metal tripods, and signs.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be friendly and have a positive attitude.
  • Must be self-motivated and enthusiastic.
  • Will respect and promote the interests of The Salvation Army. The individual is not required to embrace the tenets of faith, but he/she is required to promote and respect the mission of The Salvation Army.
