Overview

The Cook will prepare, cook, and serve meals daily for the Soup Kitchen program, social service clients, and individuals who attend Corps programs and meetings. The Cook is also responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and organizing the kitchen, serving, and storage areas.

Responsibilities

The duties listed below are the primary duties of this position but are not all the required duties.   • Plan monthly menus for social service and Corps programs and meetings with the Corps Officer.
  • Keep track of weekly food supply inventory and request restocking of food and supplies as needed.
  • Prepare meals for the Soup Kitchen, social service clients, Corps programs, and meetings.
  • Clean, organize, and put away leftovers after every meal.
  • Begin food preparation the day before the program or event if needed.
  • Oversee the kitchen and serving areas' health, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Clean, sanitize, and store kitchen items while maintaining order in the kitchen and serving areas.
  • Supervise any Community Service Workers, volunteers, or other staff assigned to the kitchen and serving areas.
  • Report any issues, accidents, or broken equipment immediately to the Corps Officers.
  • Other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Food Handler or other related certification.
  • Proven experience operating and maintaining kitchen appliances and equipment.
  • Experience supervising volunteers or community service workers effectively.
  • Ability to communicate and give instructions clearly and effectively.
  • Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
