The Ministry Assistant supports the Corps Officers while taking a lead role in youth ministry programs and outreach. This position focuses on planning, coordinating, and delivering youth-centered activities, while providing secondary assistance to other ministry efforts as needed.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the Corps Officers in planning and implementing a wide range of corps programs and ministry activities, including:
    • Summer youth programs (camp and Vacation Bible School)
    • After-school and discipleship-based youth initiatives
    • Worship, teaching, Bible studies, adult fellowship, and outreach efforts
  • Provide leadership and coordination for youth ministries such as youth group, gospel arts, troops, and young adult fellowship.
  • Assist with the organization and execution of corps events and public engagement efforts, including promotion, registration, transportation, and logistics. May involve driving to pick up donations or program participants.
  • Support seasonal campaigns and fundraising events, including the Christmas Kettle Campaign, Angel Tree, and other initiatives as assigned.
  • Build relationships with community organizations and explore opportunities for collaborative outreach to youth and vulnerable individuals.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development related to corps ministry and operations.
  • Maintain effective communication with Corps Officers, staff, volunteers, clients, donors, Advisory Board members, and community partners.
  • Provide general operational support and complete other duties or special projects as assigned by the Corps Officers.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in ministry, social services, education, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth, families, or vulnerable populations required
  • Previous experience in a ministry setting or with at-risk communities strongly preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required; must be able to operate a Salvation Army vehicle as needed
  • Must be at least 21 years of age

 

SKILLS AND COMPETENICIES

  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with youth and diverse populations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to lead programs, teach biblical concepts, and offer spiritual support
  • Reliable, professional, and able to maintain appropriate boundaries in ministry
  • Organized and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and ministry needs
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Technological proficiency sufficient for communication, scheduling, and basic reporting

 

COMPLIANCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Must uphold Biblical standards in personal and professional life
  • Must conduct oneself in a manner that reflects credit on The Salvation Army, its leadership, and Jesus Christ
  • Completion of KeepSAfe abuse risk management training, as required by The Salvation Army’s KeepSAfe policy and as assigned by the supervisor
  • Completion of any additional compliance or certification training as directed by leadership (e.g., First Aid/CPR, driver safety)
  • Adherence to all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and code of conduct expectation
