Overview

The Shelter Case Aide is responsible to assist families and individuals with emergency housing by performing intake assessments with individuals/families seeking emergency shelter.  The position requires strong communication skills in crisis intervention and the use of de-escalation techniques should the need arise.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Oversee the daily activities of the Emergency Shelter
  • Oversee/perform intake for Emergency Shelter residents
  • Provide personal care items for Emergency Shelter residents
  • Coordinate community service assignments
  • Develop and maintain housing options for residents and assist residents in finding and using housing options
  • Prepare shelter meals as needed and monitor clean-up after the meals
  • Cleaning/Set-up of shelter rooms after residents are discharged
  • Briefing staff at shift change
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Must be self motivated and able to respond quickly to emergency situations
  • Excellent telephone and verbal communication skills along with the ability to keep others informed
  • Good communication skills for crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
  • Ability to utilize proactive oral and written communication skills
  • Able to complete task that are assigned quickly and efficiently
  • Strong time management and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrate experience providing resourceful solutions to resolve problems
  • Demonstrate leadership and mentoring in a team environment
  • Ability to display positive attitude, be courteous, and show respect towards clients
  • Work well with others including those with mental illness, lower functioning, and different social, racial, and economic backgrounds
  • Punctual with attendance and be dependable

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: N/A

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Some college or related experience in the Social Service field

 

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS.   

  • Current Ohio driver's license
  • Ability to pass OTIS test and drive a 12-Passenger van
  • Must be insurable by The Salvation Army
