Exercise Instruction
• Provide group fitness instruction on a weekly basis or as scheduled; serve as a substitute instructor if/when necessary.
• Greet, introduce and welcome participants. Acquaint new participants with class procedures. Deliver the class in a fun and interesting manner. Stay after class to answer questions and interact.
• Teach scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provide adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down.
• Teach proper form and technique using positive reinforcement. Instruct clients on effective workout methods; explain proper techniques, demonstrate exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teach appropriate methods to strengthen specific areas.
• Teach proper breathing techniques used during physical exertion. Instruct participants in maintaining exertion levels in order to maximize benefits from exercise routines.
• Assists clients, answers questions, and maintain a positive exercise experience for members and class participants.
• Assist with the continual development, implementation and evaluation of all group exercise programs for all constituents.
• Ability to instruct a variety of exercise programs; strong teaching and presentation skills.
• Focus on customer service and strong communication skills with highly diverse population.
• Bi-lingual: English/Spanish preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability in fitness and exercise risk screening.
• Must be enthusiastic and exude a desire to motivate and help others.
• Demonstrated dedication to improve your level of professionalism through growth and development in the fitness industry.
• Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
• Minimum 1 year of prior work experience in a fitness or wellness environment.
• Must hold a current group exercise certification in the class hired to teach.
• Must hold and/or willing to obtain certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Blood Borne Pathogens.
