The ESL Instructor supports the education and integration of non-native English speakers by providing accessible, practical English language instruction. This role helps adult learners improve their communication skills for everyday living, work, and community engagement in a respectful, inclusive classroom setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom instruction to adult ESL students using appropriate curriculum and instructional techniques
  • Support learners in building skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English
  • Foster a welcoming and culturally responsive learning environment
  • Assist with lesson preparation and delivery based on learner needs and skill levels
  • Encourage student engagement and support participation in Corps programs where appropriate
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and support routine program documentation
  • Assist with registration, outreach, and classroom logistics
  • Collaborate with staff to support student access to additional services and resources
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and special projects as assigned
  • Perform other duties assigned to support overall program delivery

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with ESL learners or in an adult education setting
  • Clear, patient communication skills, especially with English language learners
  • Ability to adapt instruction to various learning styles and skill levels
  • Strong interpersonal skills with sensitivity to cultural differences
