Position Overview

Camp NEOSA is a Christian camp committed to glorifying God and demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ to the children of Northeast Ohio through Christ-centered camp experiences.

The Assistant Facility Manager will be responsible for the year-round upkeep, safety, and stewardship of the camp’s physical property and equipment. They will model Christian values through their work ethic, leadership, and relationships—playing a vital role in maintaining an environment that fosters spiritual, emotional, and physical growth for all campers and staff.

This is a hands-on position with responsibilities in maintenance, groundskeeping, compliance, and mentoring seasonal staff. The Assistant Facility Manager works in close collaboration with the Camp Facility Manager and the Divisional Youth Secretary.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

1. Camp Representation & Security

Represent the mission and values of Camp NEOSA to staff, guests, and the surrounding community.
Monitor and help ensure year-round safety and security of camp facilities.
2. Maintenance & Repairs

Conduct ongoing maintenance and custodial work across camp buildings and facilities.
Maintain equipment such as docks, mowers, trimmers, power tools, and utility vehicles.
Perform light electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry repairs.
Oversee seasonal road, trail, and grounds maintenance.
3. Maintenance Planning

Perform regular inspections of all buildings, systems, and equipment.
Maintain detailed records and logs of repairs, inspections, and equipment usage.
Assist in developing and implementing short- and long-term maintenance plans.
Prepare camp facilities for special events, such as Senior Camp, Officers’ Picnics, and Youth Summer Camps.
4. Summer Camp Leadership

Supervise and train seasonal maintenance staff and volunteers.
Ensure daily maintenance, repair, and emergency needs are met during summer operations.
Support camp directors and program leaders in executing a smooth and safe summer season.
Assist with post-season camp shutdown and winterization.
5. Compliance & Safety

Ensure all facilities and procedures meet state, local, American Camp Association and Salvation Army safety and health standards.
Help prepare for and participate in official inspections by state and local agencies.
Maintain a clean, hazard-free environment and report safety concerns promptly.

Qualifications

Certification Requirements (Must be obtained within 4 years of hire):

  • Ohio Class A Drinking Water Certification
  • Ohio Class A Wastewater Certification
  • Ohio Pesticide/Herbicide Applicator Certification

 

(Training and testing support will be available to help fulfill these requirements.)

Minimum Qualifications

  • A strong personal commitment to Christian values and the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Hands-on experience in general maintenance, construction, or facility operations preferred.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently for days or weeks.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and proactive hazard mitigation practices.
  • Capable of supervising others and working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts when needed
  • Ability to pass rigorous criminal background and motor vehicle records checks.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability under The Salvation Army’s vehicle policy.
  • Strong organizational skills.

 

Physical Requirements & Work Conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly, and occasionally heavier.
  • Able to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and bend for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Adequate visual and auditory abilities for safety and communication.
  • Travel for training events and meetings may be required occasionally.
