Overview

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

With direction from the Area Coordinators oversee daily operations of the Learning Zone’s Preschool & OST programs and to ensure that the program meets all academic standards and stays true to the mission of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.  

 

  1. To stay current on knowledge of the needs and concerns of the educational system in Akron, Ohio and have knowledge of the early childhood population in Summit County.
  2. Ensure ongoing and current licensing compliance and safety regulations in accordance with the regulations established by the State of Ohio, including ensuring maintenance of all staff and student files, monitoring staff trainings, ensuring that student/teacher ratios are kept at all times within the centers and that all necessary documentation is kept in accordance with licensure, state and local requirement, including but not limited to fire drills, vehicle inspections, playground inspections, and meal counts. Issues of compliance need to be addressed in collaboration with the Area Coordinators.
  3. Oversee and supervise the Preschool Assistant Director and OST Assistant Director concerning the day to day needs and operations of the center, ensuring proper supervision of staff, and management of the staffing scheduling.
  4. Provide direct oversight of programs in the absence of an Assistant Director
  5. Oversight of annual training and personal development plans for Assistant Directors, and all teaching staff in collaboration with the Assistant Directors.
  6. Conduct annual evaluations of Assistant Directors and oversee the preparation of teacher evaluations prepared and delivered by the Assistant Directors.
  7. Conduct monthly staff meetings (staff meeting minutes to be taken and filed, with a copy sent to the office of the Area Coordinators).
  8. Ensure that assessments are completed on all Learning Zone students and that appropriate teacher and parent surveys are conducted each year, ensuring all assessments and documents with outside collaborations are complete: Child Guidance and Family Solutions, Summit DD, APS Early Learning Program.
  9. Ensure accurate record-keeping concerning attendance, child progress, and other information that may be required for reports and statistical information.
  10. Achieve and maintain a quality curricula and create tools for program evaluation showing proven outcomes.
  11. Achieve and maintain 5-Star Step Up to Quality star rating.
  12. Market the program, recruiting and enrolling children to the program, aiming for 100% enrollment.
  13. Ensure proper billing, receiving, and receipting of payments by Assistant Directors for The Learning Zone services provided in accordance with Salvation Army accounting policies, and reporting on monthly financials for both programs to the Area Coordinator.
  14. Assist in the preparation of the annual Learning Zone combined budget
  15. Ensure that Assistant Directors are communicating inventory needs for food, supplies, equipment and equipment repair to you for requisition through the Area Coordinator.
  16. Supervise and monitor the CACFP program and ensure that required documentation and CACFP training are conducted in compliance with the State of Ohio Department of Education and conduct internal monitoring twice per year.
  17. Work with the Director of Social Services to offer possible services and connect families in need with community resources.
  18. Assist Area Coordinator in establishing, maintaining, and implementing Learning Zone scholarship and discount policies.
  19. Assist in the preparation of all funding proposals related to The Learning Zone.
  20. Manage recruitment, interviewing and hiring for Learning Zone positions, ensuring that both programs are fully-staffed at all times
  21. Ensure the organization of a monthly parent night for both Learning Zone programs.
  22. Approve a yearly calendar including holiday closings and scheduled family nights prior to the school year start in collaboration with the Assistant Directors.
  23. Conduct tours of The Salvation Army Learning Zone for prospective families and students promoting the values, culture and goals of the Learning Zone.
  24. Represent the Learning Zone in the community, marketing our program to community stakeholders, funders, and partners
  25. Coordinate with the Corps Office/Area Coordinators to ensure that a spiritual emphasis is incorporated throughout Learning Zone programming.
  26. Any and all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Area Coordinators.
  27. Upholds and represents The Salvation Army in the highest esteem possible.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct supervision of (2) Assistant Directors

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and experience.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Meet all state licensing requirements for working with children.  Obtain appropriate certification for Communicable Diseases/First Aid and CPR/Child Abuse.  Meet insurance requirements for driving SA vehicles.
