Overview

The Salvation Army’s Camp Wonderland is hiring a Grounds Keeper / Maintenance and offers the following benefit package to part-time employees:

Location: Sharon, MA

Pay Range: $20 per hour (Temporary/Seasonal)

 

Provide a broad range of services to support the Camp Wonderland campus including, maintenance of the grounds and fields, trees, shrubs, and plantings. support events, facility maintenance by all trades, and other duties in support of camp operations.

Under the supervision of the Wonderland Complex Property Manager perform tasks & duties associated with the care and maintenance of the camp’s grounds and fields and facilities. Sustain a high-quality aesthetic appearance of lawns, trees, and plantings, and support camp events. Assist trades tasks, safety, servicing, and repairs of facilities as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum 1-year experience in the grounds, facility maintenance or construction field

 

High school or equivalent

Technical school education in construction or building maintenance related to trade

 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Physically able to do rigorous manual labor, including lifting to 50lbs.
  • Experience and skill in the use of shop equipment, snowplow operation, lawn power equipment, and other maintenance equipment.
  • Technical skills such as carpentry, plumbing, etc.
  • Must be able to use common power and hand tools
  • Experience installing and replacing basic plumbing systems
  • Must be comfortable working in the water (Lake Massapoag) in depths that may be overhead
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
  • Must obtain DOT Medical Card w/in 90 days of employment

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Mowing of all grass areas, managing weed control, and fall/spring leaf & pine needle removal throughout the camp.
  2. Provide directions to the summer maintenance staff assigned and respond to routine needs of the camp leadership staff.
  3. Support the Wonderland Complex Property Manager with the maintenance of all camp equipment, buildings, and grounds.
    1. General building cleaning and maintenance
    2. Electrical repairs
    3. Mechanical repairs
    4. Install and replace floors, stairs, and piping as needed
    5. Repair and paint, doors, walls, ceilings, roofs, and other parts of the building
    6. Maintain trash and recycling receptacles
    7. Routine preventative maintenance for HVAC and heating systems as needed
    8. Maintain a neat and orderly work area and maintenance facilities
  4. Support all custodial maintenance projects both during the summer season and during the off-season.
  5. Assist Wonderland Complex Property Manager with snow removal and sanding of roads, parking lots, and walkways for Camp Wonderland and Wonderland Conference Center.
  6. Make recommendations to the Wonderland Complex Property Manager relative to maintenance needs, building renovation requirements, etc.
  7. Assist with the general set-up of major furnishings for groups using facilities, etc.
  8. Ensure that the Camp adheres to all known Local, State, and Federal sanitation, building codes, fire safety code, etc.
  9. Maintain all motorized vehicles, equipment, and tools in proper and safe working conditions.
  10. Implement procedures for ground and building security to minimize theft, vandalism, and natural cause losses.
  11. Required to work overtime (with prior approval) during the summer and when there are weather-related issues to attend to (snow plowing, etc.).
  12. Remain up to date with all Keep SAfe Training
  13. Perform other duties within the scope of the position as directed
