Overview

Position: Anti Human Trafficking Prevention Education Specialist

Department: Philadelphia Social Services Ministry, New Day to Stop Trafficking Work Location: Philadelphia County

Availability of Position: Immediate

Schedule: Full time (40 hours a week); Monday-Friday 9am-5pm                                   

Reporting Relationship: Director of Anti Trafficking

Salary/Grade: 10 Exempt

 About the New Day to Stop Trafficking: New Day is an anti-trafficking program offering case management, housing diversion, drop in, hotline, and training services.

Responsibilities

Position Overview: The Prevention Education Specialist will develop and coordinate trainings for New Day’s Partners including the Department of Human Services and Law Enforcement. The Prevention Education Specialist will provide technical assistance and support the DHS Childcare Room and hotline staff. The Prevention Education Specialist will facilitate groups and provide crisis response to DHS youth who are suspected victims of trafficking. In addition, they will perform awareness, and training on the issue of human trafficking and trauma. This is a grant funded position and relies upon the continuation of funding.

 

Duties:

  • Responsible for the oversight of all New Day to Stop Trafficking (NDST) trainings. Support Director of New Day in developing and coordinating trainings.
  • Participate in Human Trafficking Response Team, field calls, 24/7 hotline, and screening of potential victims of HT with local and federal law enforcement.
  • Adhere to The Salvation Army’s Social Services Code of Ethics and the NASW Code of Ethics ensuring excellence across NDST programs.
  • Manage and coordinate New Day’s social media presence in collaboration with The Salvation Army’s communications department.
  • Work with New Day’s Survivor Advisory Council on implementing prevention curriculum with youth in the greater Philadelphia area.
  • Maintain a physical presence at the DHS childcare room after hours and facilitate groups on healthy relationships with youth who present in this space.
  • Provide technical assistance to DHS hotline staff on site and build rapport with youth.
  • Develop human trafficking training and carry out awareness events, training, and trauma informed information for social service agencies, law enforcement, schools, universities, faith-based groups and other community-based providers as requested.
  • Attend collaborative meetings with various partners to improve anti-human trafficking procedures and social service protocols for the Philadelphia area.
  • Participate in anti-human trafficking efforts, coalition building, and victim service response
  • Assist the Director of New Day with recruiting and supervising BSW and MSW interns for New Day.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Staff can be called upon to represent the Salvation Army and support fundraising efforts as needed

Qualifications

Requirements

  • MSW degree or BSW with minimum two years’ experience working in human trafficking or a related field (e.g., domestic violence, immigrant rights, workers’ rights) in a role that involves service provision, training, and/or advocacy.
  • Strong public speaking skills and proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint. Experience with trauma informed care preferably a working knowledge of Sanctuary Model for Trauma informed services.
  • Must understand the issue of Domestic and Foreign Human Trafficking and prostitution.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel from site to site as may be needed in the performance of duties.
  • Professional-level communications skills verbal and written. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must possess an understanding of and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
