FUNCTION:

-Responsible for planning, implementing, and providing a safe, successful, and supervised educational setting which is age and development appropriate. Responsible for promoting the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of the students and encouraging parental involvement in all aspects of the program. Ensure all staff adherence to personal policies and practices. Program adherence to federal, state, and local laws and regulations covering childcare programs.

Responsibilities

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

-Assists Group Leaders in creating lessons plans in a timely manner and as they administer activities for school age children. ensure the activities are age appropriate, stimulating, fun, and safe. Ensure appropriate after school and full-day programs take into consideration the needs of individual children with concerns for their interests, special needs, and talents, individual style pace of learning. Consistently interacts with children and youth development staff in the program in a way which positively models acceptable leadership, character, conduct and behavior.

-Participates in the implementation of all activities and programs in Kids Club. Model’s and coach's positive behaviors and teaching to Group Leaders.

Locates supplies for Group Leaders to decorate rooms with up-to-date themes and seasons.

-Prepares and maintains attractive, entertaining, and educational bulletin boards.

Helps to organize special program events and field trips; advertises events appropriately; works in conjunction with appropriate departments for social media updates.

-Implements educational, spiritual, and character-building programming within the structure of the program set forth by the Youth Services Director and Area Coordinator; provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities. Maintain a safe, healthy, and emotionally stable environment for children. Assist children in developing good habits of personal hygiene.

-Uses appropriate supplies and materials for recreational activities; ensures the children’s safety in utilizing the same; maintains records and inventory of all recreational equipment; orders any supply needs.

-Collects statistical information for all grant reports, licensing, DHQ and THQ in a timely manner as a required by the Corps, prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports in a timely manner including but not limited to CACFP, grant reports, attendance, health, USDA, child assessments, anecdotes, IEP’s, daily activities, administering medicines, incident reports.

-Maintains the program materials in orderly fashion; maintains accountability for materials necessary for programs. Maintain the physical environment and report any maintenance needs or loss of equipment to the appropriate person. Must see that all housekeeping duties are performed daily.

-Report all accidents and incidents to the Area Coordinator and other parties as needed within 8 hours.

-Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships with children, staff, and parents. Informs parents of their children’s progress. Is available to parents to answer questions and provide positive feedback as well as instructional information pertaining to the growth and development of their child

-Transports children to and from the Club; observes good driving habits at all times in order to ensure the safety of passengers and The Salvation Army vehicles.

-Plans and coordinates all activities and programs including mentorship, tutoring, summer day camp, full days based on FCPS academic calendar, meeting the club’s goals.

-Organizes and supervises field trips; including but not limited to setting up, gathering all supplies for, arranging payment, scheduling staff within ratio, getting directions and communicating them to staff and making sure events are scheduled accordingly.

-Observes the program on a continual basis and ensures programs/activities respond to member needs.

-Attends and participates in regularly scheduled training sessions, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional requirements.

-Assists in serving meals and snacks.

-Plan, supervise, and carry out developmentally appropriate after school and full-day programs with consideration to the needs of individual children with concerns for their interests, special needs, and talents, individual style pace of learning.

-Maintain a safe, healthy, and emotionally stable environment for children.

-Performs other duties as assigned for the efficient functioning of the Salvation Army and Kids Club.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

-Undergraduate degree in related field and 3 years' work experience with youth or in a similar youth serving organization. Experience in lieu of a degree would be considered.

-Must meet requirements of city and state licensing agencies such as TB skin test, first aid, and CPR.

-Must have supervisory and teaching experience.

-Maintain confidentiality. Assist people in a kind and courteous manner.

-Flexibility and strong work ethics.

-Good written and oral communication skills.

-Knowledge of the principles and practices of early childhood curriculum, child behavior and development.

-Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities.

-A passion for the Salvation Army’s mission.

-Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army and Kids Club.
