Overview

The After School Program Teacher (ASPT) supports the Afterschool Program Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for students and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. They must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment in implementing a quality school age educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children, staff, and their parents.

Responsibilities

Specifically, the primary duties are:

  • Supervise and engage with children during program times.
  • Develop and implement school age program activities and curriculum.
  • Establish a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for all students
  • Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, order, and availability of classroom materials.
  • Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
  • Help ensure smooth, daily transitions for children.
  • Follow all program policies and state regulations.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Utilize classroom assessment and evaluation tools as it pertains to child development and curriculum.
  • Communicate accidents, sicknesses, and incidents to the Program Director in a timely manner.
  • Complete and maintain professional development to ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

General Office

  • Maintain good and accurate record keeping utilizing digital and paper filing systems.
  • Follow all Salvation Army KeepSAfe policies.
  • Be professional and timely in responding to email and requests.
  • Be courteous in communication with students, staff, parents, and volunteers.
  • Attend assigned staff meetings and trainings and actively contribute to these meetings.

Qualifications

  • Must understand and appreciate the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Experience working with school aged children (classroom teaching experience is preferred).
  • High energy and the ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • An understanding of child development.
  • Multilingual- English/Spanish/French strongly preferred
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Infant/child and Adult CPR and First Aid certification or be willing to attain certificate within 90 days.
  • Must clear full background check.
  • Must provide health screening that includes a physical and TB results within the first 90 days.
  • Must be willing to support and/or lead faith-based kid’s activities and programming.
