Position Description: The Fitness & Recreation Manager (FRM) is responsible to oversee the daily operations of
all fitness, recreation and related activities and services; will provide staff supervision of the same. The FRM
will ensure appropriate programming, staffing, supplies and customer service is being delivered to members and
guests. Supervise staff that includes fitness specialists, group exercise instructors, and recreation specialists. Responsible for the hiring and training of all fitness/recreation associates. Have the ability to perform all the duties outlined in the fitness associate job description as needed. Assist in the planning, marketing and promotion of fitness and recreation-related member incentive programs. Oversee monthly work schedules for all fitness/recreation associates to administer all necessary services, including assessment, fitness floor/gymnasium, athletic field supervision, consultations, test scheduling and other related services.
Requirements Bachelor degree in Exercise Science or related health/fitness field required. Master of Science in exercise physiology preferred. ACSM Health Fitness Instructor and ACLS training preferred. Minimum of two years’ experience in a fitness facility. Minimum of three years’ experience performing graded exercise tests.
Excellent organizational and time management skills required. CPR/AED certification required. Ability to train, direct and supervise fitness associates and to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check. Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
