SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To research and prepare grant proposals in order to secure funding for programs and components of The Salvation Army, to ensure their development and continuation.

 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research government, business, and foundation funding opportunities
  • Communicate with the Director of Development, Director of Social Services, and Director of Operations, to identify funding opportunities, consistent with The Salvation Army’s strategic initiatives
  • Interact frequently with corps officers, program directors and other staff to ensure deep understanding of programs and their needs
  • Cultivate strong relationships with government agencies, businesses, and foundations
  • Develop and maintain records of contacts with potential funding sources
  • Provide timely information and advice regarding funding opportunities, requirements, and procedures
  • Attend meetings pertaining to funding opportunities to assess appropriateness and to establish agency interest
  • Write proposals to secure new funds from government agencies, businesses, and foundations
  • Complete proposals and applications to ensure continuing funds from government agencies, businesses and foundations as appropriate
  • Ensure timely completion of reports, as defined by funding agencies
  • Monitor when grants/contracts are completed and/or due for renewal and make sure all functional aspects of the grant requirements have been completed, such as billing, documenting, etc., in addition to making sure we are in compliance with the appropriate application forms from the funding source
  • Coordinate the completion of the financial portion of the contract application, with the Controller, and review and edit as necessary
  • Coordinate and expedite the processing and signing of the contracts with the funding source and Divisional and Territorial Headquarters
  • Bill all grants/contracts on a timely basis and provide the funding source with adequate documentation to ensure payment
  • Follow up on unpaid accounts with correspondence, phone calls, etc., to ensure maximum realization of revenues
  • Input all receivables, from billing sources, into the Shelby software accounting system, on a regular basis and coordinate balances and necessary adjustments with the Controller
  • Prepare monthly billing and accounts receivable reports, to assist the Controller in the monthly and year-end closing process
  • Perform all other duties as requested

Qualifications

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

·        Possess excellent organizational and communication skills both verbal and written

·        Have the ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously and work efficiently and effectively while under deadline restraints

·        Ability to work independently, exercise good follow through skills to see projects from conception through completion stages

·        Notary Public Preferred

·        Valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army’s insurance requirements

·        Access to own vehicle
