Overview

Location: Divisional Headquarters, Finance Department (Hartford, CT)

Status: Non-exempt, Full-time

Hours Per Week: 37.5

Schedule: Mon-Fri; 8:30 am – 4:00 pm (includes two 15-minute paid breaks per day)

 

Scope & Purpose of Position: Process income from all Corps and Area Services into the accounting package while adhering to The Salvation Army’s accounting policies and procedures. 

Responsibilities

  • Apply accounting principles and practices following standardized, well-established procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Institute safeguards to ensure the integrity and maintenance of the accounting system.
  • Assist Corps Officers with the preparation of financial-related materials for audits.
  • Assist in month-end closing procedures.
  • Input financial-related data into computer systems and maintain financial reports and records related to programs.
  • Maintain and oversee the maintenance of financial documents (weekly income sheets, deposit tickets, kettle collections, etc.).
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Record and post income into the computer system and generate income receipts received. Corps Officers will be responsible for recording income, making bank deposits, and distributing receipts generated.
  • Provide coverage for the Accounts Payable Clerks.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Accounting/Business Management or three years of experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, accounting software, and databases.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Should be well organized, show strong initiative, and adequate follow through.
  • Valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements.
