Overview

Position: Youth & Family Assistant         

Location: Chambersburg – Ministry Services

Availability of Position: ASAP

Schedule: 8 hours per week

Reporting Relationship:  Youth & Family Ministries Director   

Salary and Grade: $20.00 per hour / 72

Position Overview: This Youth & Family Assistant will function as part of the Chambersburg Ministry Team and will invest oneself in the lives of young people and their families, developing and maintaining relational ministry opportunities.  This position will provide childcare in the nursery for Sunday mornings and various Church programming.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:  

  • Represent The Salvation Army in a manner that brings glory to God.
  • Assist in every way requested to carry out the spiritual and total mission of The Chambersburg Corps of The Salvation Army in terms of community needs and our ministry to the people of our community.
  • Provide childcare for Sunday morning Worship Services.
  • Provide childcare for various programs throughout the week.
  • Create a space of learning for nursery participants.
  • Teach a Sunday School class for nursery age children.
  • Assist Youth & Family Ministries Director with Club 3:16 and other youth programs, increasing enrollment within programs.
  • Assist Youth & Family Ministries Director with Vacation Bibe School.
  • Assist Youth & Family Ministries Director with Summer Day Camp.
  • Strive to up-hold a solid Christian influence in all areas of the Chambersburg facility.
  • Build relationships within all aspects of the Chambersburg ministry to encourage children and their parents to participate in Corps / Church programs / services.
  • As requested, attend and chaperone Corps, Divisional and Territorial retreats and events.
  • Assist with any other projects or covering responsibilities withing other departments, as assigned by the Corps Officers or Youth & Family Ministries Director.

It is required that you abide by the doctrines of The Salvation Army.  It is understood due to the nature of this job, that a high level of Christianity must be maintained through worship, belief and living and that if my lifestyle conflicts with the Christian beliefs of The Salvation Army, this ministry position will be terminated.  The quality of productivity must always maintain a high standard.  It is expected that the employee will attend The Salvation Army as his/her church for the term of this employment, that he/she will conduct himself/herself in a professional, pleasant, and pleasing manner.  It is understood that the employee will always dress conservatively and neatly and is expected to always use common sense and exercise safety.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children and families.
  • Solid and mature Christian.  
  • Excellent communication skills- both oral and in writing.
  • Must treat all people with compassion and respect.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and appropriate intervention skills within The Salvation Army required
  • Must be passionate about the Mission of the Salvation Army and the Vision of the Chambersburg Corps.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have an understanding of and suppport the Mission of The Salvation Army.
