DEPARTMENT: Northern Kentucky Corps

REPORTS TO: Corps Officers

SUPERVISES: After School and Summer Enrichment Program Staff

STATUS: Non-Exempt

SCHEDIILE: Varies to cover After School Program and Summer Enrichment Program Schedules (along with Corps Activities). 35-40 hours/week

 

FUNCTION: To provide oversight and support to the after-school program, summer enrichment program and children at The Salvation of Northern Kentucky.

Responsibilities

DUTIES:

 

  • Creates and maintains Program area in an attractive and current manner that reflects programming and the season
  • Visitations to local schools and provide mentoring to children
  • Spearhead licensing process for ASP & SEP through Commonwealth of Kentucky
  • Remain in compliance with Kentucky Child Care Standards of Practice. Support outreach/evangelistic opportunities
  • Report statistics to Corps Officers and DHQ (Program Department)
  • Connect after school and summer enrichment program families to corps ministries
  • Plan family activities to bridge community to corps programs for children
  • Provide oversight to premium after school program ensuring compliance with local and state requirements.

  • Maintain kitchen and feeding program recording to health department standards
  • Receives and maintains food inventory for meals / menu assisting with the preparation of menus and serving of meals.
  • Ensure the after-school program meets the program standards set forth by DHQ
  • Schedule staff, approve vacation leave requests, process time sheets for ASP/SE staff
  • Develop relationships with parents, teachers, and guidance counselors to enable better service to children
  • Establish relationships with outside agencies for referrals or program support. Create and adhere to balanced program budget
  • Collect and record payments and late fees for programs
  • Oversee program staff and plan programming that meets DHQ, United Way and grant requirements. Attend necessary trainings to maintain compliance for feeding program with Food Bank)
  • Provide good stewardship to building, resources and equipment
  • Responsible for promoting the programs with a focus on recruiting and building attendance. Creates forms, charts, flyers, applications & documents for both Programs with approval from CO.
  • Serves as a point of contact for community partners and agencies as well as for parents in a manner that is representative of The Salvation Army and that promotes the programs.
  • Responsible for program administration to include: assures and receives payments from parents including the processing of voucher payments; maintains files and records of participants including application, permissions, releases, attendance and emergency contacts in accordance with TSA policy & procedures and local laws; and generates monthly statistical and narrative reporting associated with the program, its resources and activities.
  • Manages child safety and welfare by acting as Lead, monitoring program activities and behavioral boundaries on-site and on field trips.
  • Coordinates and participates in scheduled activities with children which includes help with homework, recreation, and arts & crafts activities. Providing lesson plans and daily schedules.
  • Supervises the After School / Summer Day Camp Assistant ensuring accountability. Provide over-site and direction to volunteers ensuring appropriate support for programming. Works with the Kentucky Kares and Volunteer Coordinators to ensure the program has volunteers that are cleared to work with TSA. Keeps CO’s informed and seeks guidance related to performance issues.
  • Knowledgeable on and ready to carry out Emergency and Contingency Procedures.
  • Manages child safety and welfare by acting as Lead, monitoring program activities and behavioral boundaries on-site and on field trips.
  • Cooperate with other Salvation Army staff, including the Worship and Service Center ministry team, to create and maintain a harmonious and efficient environment.
  • Maintain time sheets and turn in when due.
  • Support Christmas activities as assigned
  • Support fundraising activities as assigned
  • Answer phone, take messages regarding the program and parents as needed
  • Support Emergency Assistance Provider and Receptionist as needed
  • Follow rules, regulations, and policies of The Salvation Army.

 

Qualifications

MINIMTIM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School diploma required
  • Must comply with state licensing standards (an Associate Degree or higher in child development/elementary education and/or at least 3 years of experience working with school age children in a licensed center)
  • Effective communication skills
  • Must be safety conscious
  • Must be at Least 2l years of age
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive a minivan/mid bus
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly; English preferred
  • Must be self-motivated, highly organized and able to work independently
  • Must have the ability to work and relate well with individuals who possess varying needs
  • Must be able to handle difficult situation confrontations in a professional manner
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the mission of The Salvation Army
