Overview

Serving under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, assist with the logistics & maintenance services of the East Cleveland Corps Community Center. The Facilities Assistant & Driver will support and maintain the Mission of The Salvation Army and the Vision of the East Cleveland Corps, in accordance with all applicable internal & external policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As directed by the Maintenance Supervisor:

  • General maintenance of all Salvation Army property including parking lot areas. 
  • General building upkeep includes cleaning every area of the building including interior and exterior of the building – regular floor care (shampooing carpet, stripping & waxing) required.
  • Small repairs and troubleshooting all mechanical systems; (Minor repairs include ceiling tile changing, stopping of leaks wherever required, etc.)
  • Receiving of all deliveries and ensuring that they are securely packed and covered. After packing away delivered items in pantry and storage area, make sure that all spills are swept and mopped.
  • Assist with food delivery, including verification of the contents of the delivery bill and unloading of goods. Ensure all invoices are forwarded to the Corps Officers immediately.
  • Maintain records of all in-kind donations
  • Routine vehicle maintenance including cleaning (interior & exterior), fluid checks, etc.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, purchasing under the guidance of Corps Officers
  • Trash, snow, and ice removal; maintain cleanliness of trash cans and related equipment
  • Maintenance of sidewalks, all outside perimeter areas of the building
  • Driving of 12 passenger van and/or box truck is required for donation pickups and supporting of the Red Kettle Campaign
  • Any other duties as shall be required by the Corps Commanding Officers

OCCASIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As directed by the Maintenance Supervisor:

  • Assist with stocking shelves of all food items adhering to applicable health codes & practices
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the assigned work area and the Food Pantry, reporting any unsafe conditions to the Family Service Worker and/or Corps Officers.
  • Assist Family Service Worker to ensure smooth operation of the East Cleveland Corps Social Services Department.
  • Participate in and support the implementation of special activities and event for the East Cleveland Corps.
  • Be prepared and willing to assist with the administration of seasonal programs including Christmas Toys & Kettles, Back-To-School, etc.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED with 1-2 years of related experience
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, that should be maintained throughout employment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must conduct oneself in a manner which reflects credit on The Salvation Army, its leadership, and on the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Must be able to function in a fast-paced, frequently changing work environment with the ability to multi-task.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and be detail-oriented.
  • Must possess a professional attitude and approach to problem-solving.
  • Must be able to relate well to all people and be a team player.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Must possess computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn other programs as used by The Salvation Army.
