SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Youth Outreach and Program Coordinator will serve in a critical support role in the development, growth, and mission of the corps.  They will be responsible for developing and sustaining programing that is intended to draw young people into the corps and meet needs while introducing them to the Gospel message and intentionally working to bridge them and their families deeper into the wider spiritual community and life of the corps.

The Youth Ministries Coordinator will be responsible for creatively developing and coordinating specific programing and events, that effectively carry out the missional mandate.

 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, plan, and implement programs and events designed to draw different groups of young people including but not limited to.

 

  • Character Building Programs.
  • Creative Art Programs.
  • Discipleship programs.
  • Vacation Bible School

 

  • Assist with the leadership of traditional SA discipleship youth programming including Junior Soldiers, Honor Junior soldiers, Corps Cadets Bible Bowl and Sunday School.

 

  • Provide leadership at events including promotion, registration, and transportation.
    • Transportation could include driving to pick up donations, program participants, Sunday Worship, Divisional events, Youth Councils, Summer Camp Sessions, etc.
  • Assist with public relations and fundraising for events and campaigns that impact the programs and population you serve.
  • Participate in the leadership of Sunday worship and related worship events.
  • Creatively develop spiritual specifically targeting the young people you.
  • Develop a Spiritual Development Plan for all age children and teens.
  • Keep timely and effective communication with parents, guardians and responsible family members.
  • Coordinate all youth program record keeping, stats, and other related documentation.
  • Assist as needed for general, daily Corps support needs and performs special projects as assigned by the Corps Officer.
  • Engage in various training, education, and development opportunities as they become available.
  • Effectively communicate with various individuals including Corps Officers, Divisional Officers, Local Officers, soldiers, staff, clients, volunteers, donors, community leaders, etc.
  • Serve as a resource and support for the evangelism and discipleship of youth and young adults for other Corps Leaders and Local Officers.
  • Ensure that general behavioral standards are consistent with SA Standards and teaching.
  • Ensure that all teaching both formal and informal falls within The Salvation Army’s doctrine and standards
  • Follow NYS guidelines for mandated reporting.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Corps Officer.

Qualifications

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

·         Must be a Christian.

·         Uniformed Salvationist in good standing. (preferred)

·         Must uphold biblical standards in personal and professional life.

·         Must conduct oneself in a manner which reflects positively on The Salvation Army, its leadership, and on the Lord Jesus.

·         Must understand and have appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.

·         Must have a valid driver license.

·         Must possess a good understanding of the youth culture to relate and build relationships with them
