Seeking a Shelter Resident Assistant to join our Buffalo Area Services Team

SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To provide assistance to the homeless population in a residential facility which serves single women, women with children, couples and custodial male parents with children.  

Must be readily available and flexible to cover a variety of shifts, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Distribute client supplies.
  • Obtain meals from Golden Age Center for Shelter mealtimes.
  • Set-up for client meals and assist clients during mealtimes.
  • Clean-up and maintain areas after mealtimes.
  • Make wake-up calls to client rooms.
  • Attend to answering incoming phone calls.
  • Cover lobby desk duties.
  • Monitor second and third floor public areas.
  • Maintain storage rooms.
  • Report inventory needs to Shelter Director or Residence Manager.
  • Organize and submit vouchers and invoices for payment to Director.
  • Work closely with Shelter staff to assure client program activities.
  • Clean and supply all rooms upon discharge of clients.
  • Perform laundry duties including washing and folding linens.
  • Clean hallways, elevator and stairwells.
  • Perform light maintenance work as assigned.
  • Perform custodial duties as assigned.
  • Monitor facility and ensure that all common areas are free of hazard.
  • Work closely with staff to keep facility in good condition.
  • Maintain client safety and security including assistance with emergency evacuation and other special needs.
  • Maintain Shelter records including logs, rosters, inventory lists, supply orders, maintenance requests, etc.
  • Conduct monitored drug / alcohol testing.
  • Attend all staff meetings / trainings as directed.
  • Participate in all other duties and activities as requested or assigned.

Qualifications

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to achieve and maintain CPR Certification
  • Ability to diffuse crisis situations both within team settings and independently.
  • Ability to document program events and carry out scheduled or spontaneous tasks
  • Capable of applying all assigned training topics
