We are presently conducting a search for a Senior Accountant (SA) to add to our Team of Accounting Professionals within the Finance Department for this division of The Salvation Army.   This position was originally an Accountant.  Due to growth of our agency and the need for senior level talent, the position is now elevated to a Senior Accountant.  The role of a Senior Accountant is to work with their assigned internal customers.  SA's are assigned to specific Departments/Programs where they are responsible for managing the contracts awarded to specific programs.  Review of newly awarded contracts, create and monitoring of budgets, billing and will work with Department Heads on the understanding and spend of each contract awarded to their Programs.  The SA will report directly to the Director of Finance.  This position is considered Full-Time Exempt, Up to $62,500 depending on education and experience, and with access to our full benefit offerings at the completion of our "Initial Employment" period.

Responsibilities

Listed below is an overview of the essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Preparation and management of billings and financial reports for government and non-government entities
  • Main contact with grantors to ensure all reports are filed timely and accurately
  • Manage collection efforts for billing revenues
  • Work with program directors to generate financial information necessary for grant renewals and initial proposals
  • Perform internal audit function of grants to ensure accuracy, proper posting of transaction & compliance with grant financial regulations
  • Reconciliation of account balances
  • Assist with the preparation of the agency budget and financial statements
  • Preparation of and the recording of monthly journal entries
  • Journal Entries:  monthly preparation, review and edit for accuracy & completeness
  • Allocations:  review of entries on a quarterly and annual basis

Qualifications

Special Skills, Certificates, Licenses:

  • Minimum of an Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree
  • Bachelor's Degree with accounting experience
  • Non-profit industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with Grant and/or Contract Accounting preferred.
  • Advanced skill level with Excel and Accounting Software.  (We utilize Serenic)
