Shift: Day shift (Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00pm, Occasional evenings & weekends)
Job Focus:
This person is to admit and work closely with the families and single women in the Hanger Lodge, individually and in group work. To plan and implement programs in the Hanger Lodge and to promote positive conditions which are favorable to the residents’ well-being and progress.
Essential Functions:
-Provide direct service to the residents, particularly the Department of Corrections residents. Maintain communication through face to face sessions, phone calls or emails; establish a housing plan to assist the individual in overcoming barriers to housing; provide referrals to outside agency and advocate for the clients.
-Establish and monitor a case plan for each family or single woman in residence
-Be aware of the housing situation in Lexington; subsidized housing opportunities/ public housing and to present this information to families and women in an appropriate format
-Refer families and singles to appropriate social service agencies which may be of assistance to them; encourage residents to make use of them
-Present Life Skills classes on an as needed basis
-Provide limited follow-up services to residents who express a desire for such assistance. This would consist of at least one contact per month either by phone or home visit
-Responsible for statistics and other needed reports on casework matters
-Participate in staff meetings and development
-Be responsible for the organization of paperwork, prompt recording and meeting of deadlines imposed by your supervisor
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
-Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field required.
-One or more years of social work experience with homeless population preferred
-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
-Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
-Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Microsoft Word, Excel,)
-Must possess a thorough understanding and appreciation for The Salvation Army’s mission and work
-Must be sensitive to the issues of families, children, cultural diversity, and homelessness – must be able to assist people and aid in a calm, courteous and polite manner.
-Must maintain a valid driver’s license
-Must pass extensive background check
