Overview

Position: Sales Associate 

Department: Hamburg, PA Family Store

Availability of Position:  Immediate - 1 position available

Schedule: Part-Time; 19.5 hours per week during store hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 9:00am to 4:00pm

Reporting Relationship: Store Manager

Salary and  Grade: $11.50 per hour; 70 Non-Exempt

 

Position Overview: The Sales Associate (SA) works for the success of The Salvation Army’s Hamburg, PA Family Store by assisting customers, processing donations, and promoting retail sales.

Responsibilities

Description of Position: Employees are expected to greet customers and provide excellent customer service while monitoring dressing room use to prevent theft. Responsibilities include computing sales prices, totaling purchases, and processing cash or credit payments. They are also tasked with completing register close-out procedures and assisting in the preparation of accurate income deposits. Additional duties involve tagging, pricing, and stocking merchandise, as well as maintaining cleanliness in the store floor, restrooms, and stocking areas daily. Employees receive and process donations according to the established triage system and provide receipts to donors. Regular communication with the Store and Donation Center Manager and the Associate Store Manager is essential for addressing concerns, sharing ideas, and offering suggestions. Under the guidance of the Associate Store Manager, employees oversee merchandise displays inside and outside the store, dress mannequins, and steam clothes to enhance the store's appearance. They guide and work alongside volunteers regularly, comply with safe handling practices for cleaning and hazardous materials, and adhere to all Salvation Army policies and procedures, including financial policies. Additionally, employees perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:    

  • High School Diploma or GED, and equivalent retail/resale experience.
  • Exhibit exemplary customer service skills.
  • Must be reliable, trustworthy, outgoing, and have sound decision-making skills.
  • Reliable transportation with a clean driving record.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must possess an understanding of and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
