Overview

The Salvation Army’s South End Corps is hiring a Casworker and offers the following benefit package to part-time employees:

Location:  1500 Washington Street, Boston

Pay Rate:   $18/hr

Hours:  28 hrs/week (Monday-Friday, 9:30am-3:00pm)

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma, required
  • Associate degree in Social Services, preferred
  • Experience in the Social Services field
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skillsMust be able to lift 25 lbs
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of the local community and services provided
  • Valid driver’s license and use of official vehicle may be required.  Ability to travel as needed
  • Bi-lingual, preferred

 

Interview clients seeking assistance for various human service needs and making referrals to other area agencies for further services. Maintain daily records of clients including but not limited to forms/files/correspondence/statistical information. Support Corps in the implementation of social ministries programs and collaborate with other social service agencies in the community

Casework

  1. Interview clients and assess needs and resources of clients.
  2. Provide emergency assistance, counseling, advocacy to clients according to the needs assessed.
  3. Make referrals to area agencies for further services.
  4. Schedule appointments for clientele as needed. 
  5. Maintain accurate and confidential daily records of clients including but not limited to forms/files/correspondence/statistical information/ and other records as required.
  6. Recognize spiritual needs of persons which may require referral to the Corps Officers (who are ordained ministers of The Salvation Army).

 

Program Support

  1. Assist with the implementation and coordination of social ministries programs at Corps
  2. Maintain inventory for feeding program and emergency food pantry, including supporting Corps officers in grant and in-kind donation development.
  3. Network with and cultivate collaborative relationships with key personnel at other social service agencies and community-based organizations in the corps area.
  4. Attend community meetings as requested by Corps Officers

 

General Responsibilities

  1. Serve as office receptionist as needed
  2. Perform general clerical duties to include but not limited to:
    1. Photocopying
    2. Faxing
    3. Mailing
    4. Filing
  3. Assist with the implementation and coordination of other Corps activities.
  4. Keep inventory and processes requests for office supplies
  5. Maintain routine reports
  6. Respond to all donations with a thank you (monetary and in-kind)
  7. Assist where needed in the operations of all seasonal social ministries programs (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Back to School, Summer Camp, etc.) as requested by Corps Officers and DHQ.
  8. Be able to identify and understand potential local social service funding sources and provide required reports to Corps and DHQ for current social service funding sources.
  9. Assist in the identification, recruitment, training, and utilization of volunteers for both local and seasonal social service activities
  10. Participate in required social ministries, counseling, and other appropriate TSA trainings
  11. Remain up to date with all Keep SAfe training
  12. Perform other duties as requested.
