SEEKING: Dedicated individuals looking to begin or expand their clinical experience working with family systems and gain experience practicing an evidence-based model in a supportive work environment.

As a Family Therapist at The Salvation Army we provide office and home based Functional Family Therapy (FFT) services to 5 to12 families per Therapist who have a 10 – 17 year old identified by the Department of Social Services and Probation Department. You will  participate as an FFT team member.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive intake and assessments of assigned clients.
  • Assist family members in devising and implementing FFT service plans and strategies of intervention for the family considering all aspects of the family’s life and targeting behavioral change for youth via FFT methodology.
  • Initiate and maintain regular contact with clients, conducting home visits and therapy sessions of significant duration/frequency based on FFT consultation.
  • Participate in FFT training, FFT consultation/case conferences, and consult with FFT Supervisor in providing services based on FFT principles (e.g. Engagement Dynamics, How to Approach Behavior Change). Maintain FFT narratives, statistical information, outcome monitoring and providing ongoing clinical assessments and case recommendations utilizing FFT formats.
  • Maintain liaison activities with collaborative partners.
  • Provide case recommendations to the Probation Monitor regarding the justice system, educational needs or other individual needs for the youth in the family; and to other service providers regarding client utilization of and need for services, mental health/substance abuse issues, youth, family or community safety, and/or issues pertinent to after care planning.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or related field is required (Licensure is preferred, but not required. Commensurate work experience with a Bachelor’s degree may be considered).
  • Will also consider candidates nearing completion of one of these degree programs.
  • Relevant experience in serving children and families in child welfare, developmental disabilities, behavioral health, primary health care, or social services
  • Requires computer proficiency including word processing skills and the ability to provide culturally competent practice
  • Valid NYS Driver License and access to private transportation
  • Please note:  background investigation and drug screen required.
