REPORTS TO:              Service Unit Director

SUPERVISES:               Service Unit Volunteers & other staff as directed by SU Director                 

STATUS:                        Exempt              

SCHEDULE:                  Full-Time.  Position requires significant scheduling flexibility to attend evening meetings and meetings convened at a distance from home. 

FUNCTION:                   To coordinate the efforts of employees and volunteers who are working on behalf of The Salvation Army in fundraising and providing assistance.  This job description is not to be interpreted as all inclusive.  It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position.  This position may require the incumbent to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this description. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in establishing and maintaining fund raising efforts for each Service Unit.
  • Following up on donor and volunteer inquiries within 24 hours.
  • Work with volunteers/committees to identify new sources of income.
  • Monitor existing Service Unit programs within in assigned area.
  • Secure camper count for Service Unit Camp session.
  • Responsible to follow internal control as it relates to funds, vehicles, wills, and other legal documents.
  • Maintain a direct information line between the Service Unit and the Divisional Headquarters staff.
  • Recruit, train, and develop new committee chairpersons, members, and volunteers throughout the year.
  • Maintain and active volunteer/committee in each Service Unit location.
  • Personally visit all Service Units within the assigned areas and attend all Service Unit meetings.
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead all Service Unit meetings.
  • Set a weekly work schedule of 4 days in the field and 1 day at home based office or assigned area.
  • Assist Units in developing their annual budget and goals and train volunteers accordingly.
  • Establish public relations as well as interpret programs in assigned Service Unit areas.
  • Work with volunteers/committees on getting involved with community relations activities.
  • Support Service Units with the resources and materials needed for servicing their respective communities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new Service Unit programs.
  • Maintain impress balance system focused on service delivery.
  • Identify and recommend systematic change that will improve service delivery.
  • Attend and/or recruit volunteers to attend all United Way meetings and be active in community service groups within the assigned region.
  • Provide and maintain accurate records and train volunteers to do the same.
  • Supervise and participate in the preparation of all Service Unit reports
  • Provide a detailed calendar and all tracking reports to supervisor on a weekly basis.

Qualifications

  • Must establish and maintain dedicated office at home or assigned area.
  • Must have a respect, understanding, and appreciation for the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of business management, social welfare program development, fund raising, public relations, and personnel supervision.
  • Have the ability to recruit, train, motivate, instruct, and evaluate a volunteer work staff.
  • Combination of work experience and post-secondary education is preferred.
  • Must be willing and able to travel frequently within Ohio and Kentucky.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record and the ability to safely, operate a motor vehicle.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
