Overview

The Child Care Provider provides direct care to the youth that participate in the Family Shelter’s childcare and/or recreation programs The Child Care Provider should be patient, kind, and genuinely enjoy working with children of all ages.

Responsibilities

  • The Child Care Provider reports directly to the Education Coordinator regarding all direct care children’s services related issues,
  • The Child Care Provider establishes curriculum goals for the infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-age children.
  • The Child Care Provider maintains a safe, caring, nurturing and age-appropriate learning environment.
  • The Child Care Provider is responsible for the order and appearance of the room.
  • The Child Care Provider assumes an equal share of the joint housekeeping as a team.
  • The Child Care Provider attends staff meetings and participates in training programs and other aspects of job growth.
  • The Child Care Provider follows all emergency, medical and accident procedures as outlined in Briarwood’s Emergency Plans and House Rules.
  • The Child Care Provider works with residents in creating and implementing family activities.
  • The Child Care Provider is responsible for kitchen duties, as needed.
  • The Child Care Provider attends all childcare and recreation trips as assigned
  • The Child Care Provider will be assigned to work in the childcare and recreation program as at the discretion of the Education Coordinator.
  • The Child Care Provider may be called upon to work a shift beginning as early as 7am and ending as late as 8pm depending on the needs of the program and the activities scheduled for the program youth.
  • To continue to run each of our shelters with excellence and to meet the needs of the program, employees may be asked to assume their same position at one of our other shelters operated by the Salvation Army at the discretion of the Director of Shelters or Salvation Army Department Heads.
  • Other assignments and tasks may be added at the discretion of the Director of Shelters or Salvation Army Department Heads.
  • Has respect and consideration for the people being served.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of workflow. Able to perform duties independently, with minimal need of direct supervision.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of clients, shelter/programs.
  • Demonstrates the ability to interact in a positive and helpful manner with clients, visitors, contract staff, volunteers and co-workers.
  • Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude at the workplace and towards job.
  • Projects a good image in dealing with the public and its clients. Is willing to make an extra effort to help build a quality and caring shelter/program.         

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience working with disadvantaged children in childcare and/or recreational programs for children.
  • NYS Driver’s License is strongly preferred.
  • Employee must work to obtain certifications for CPR and First Aid and Fire Safety within three months of their hire date.
  • Good organizational skills, writing skills and communication skills are a must. Must be able to lift thirty pounds.
