Overview

Position:  Bi-lingual Community Health and Nutrition Educator

Department: Community Health & Nutrition                      

Availability of Position:  Immediately

Schedule: Part-time plus (20 hours per week), some evenings and/or weekends to accommodate program participants

Reporting Relationship: Directly: Community Health and Nutrition Administrator (CHNA)

Indirectly: Director of Programs and Operations                 

Salary/Grade: $20.00 per hour; 76, NE

Responsibilities

Description of Position:    

The Bi-lingual Community Health & Nutrition Educator (CHNE) will be responsible for conducting hands-on nutrition education activities and demonstrations as assigned as well as facilitate other community health events and workshops based on participant feedback. This position will be part-time plus and may include daytime, evenings, and/or weekends. This position will receive instruction and training from the department administrator on how to lead a variety of ages and group sizes in hands-on nutrition education and cooking activities. The CNHE will need to shop, lesson prep, practice, conduct, and evaluate nutrition education activities. All activities will be carried out in close communication with the department administrator. Additional activities will include helping to advertise classes, create relationships with class attendees, and communicate and follow-up with attendees to strengthen relationships and continue to encourage healthy habits. The CNHE needs to understand the basics of a healthy lifestyle and model healthy habits. Occasionally the employee may be asked to help with special events. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:      

  • Associates with 2-3 years of education or work-related experience in the areas of Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health and/or a related field.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish required.
  • Must possess excellent public speaking, organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Knowledge of cultural flexibility, competency in working with multi-cultural participants and experience working with a wide range of ages and group sizes.
  • Program requires working hours to be flexible to meet program needs and is subject to change.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, patience, creativity and love for diverse cultures and people.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment but also able to work independently.
  • Effective time management and strong organizational skills a must.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Valid Driver's License and able to obtain insurance clearances as determined by The Salvation Army's insurance company.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 prior to hire.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army
