Overview

Position: Learning Center Assistant

Department: Reading Corps - Learning Center

Availability of Position: Immediate

Schedule:  Part-time Plus - up to 28 hours per week Monday to Friday, 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Reporting Relationship: Youth Ministry Coordinator / Corps Officers

Salary and Grade:  $12.00 - $13.50 per hour;

Position Overview:  The Salvation Army in Reading, PA, is looking for Learning Center Assistants that will support the youth programs in the building in a part-time setup in coordination with the Learning Center staff for our afterschool and summer programs.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:

  • Team Oversight of children (15-30) during planned program time.
  • Participate in all group activities, games, and homework help.
  • Lead by example, displaying good character and respect.
  • Maintain the program area clean and safe for children.
  • Assist with various learning plans for instruction. (Including Christian/Biblically based curriculum)
  • Assist in tracking attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:      

  • Valid PA Driver’s License.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Individuals must have previous experience in working with children or comparable training.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly desirable.
  • Must be creative with activities for the gym, game room, computer lab, and craft room.
  • PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
  • As a mandated reporter, the applicant must complete mandated reporter training on recognizing and reporting child abuse and Salvation Army KeepSAfe training within 30 days of employment.
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
