Overview

  • Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a Senior Center in accordance with the Nassau County and The Salvation Army.
  • Take over the Director of Senior in case of vacation or illness

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a Foodservice operation according to Nassau County guidelines with the assistance of the Cook Manager
  • Coordinate safe delivery of meals to homebound participants according to county guidelines
  • Responsible for overseeing all staff and fostering a sense of teamwork.
  • Responsible for completion of monthly reports and statistics for the Department of Senior Citizen Affairs and The Salvation Army
  • Coordinate the planning of all social activities and programs for the center
  • Responsible for overseeing the production of the Monthly Activity Calendar
  • Provide emotional support for seniors with recommendations to Social Workers and other referrals as needed
  • Responsible for outreach to seniors in the community to keep the program growing and vital
  • Attend training sessions as assigned by sponsoring agency
  • Ensure all invoices are given to the accountant for payment
  • Maintain proper information on the state Social Assistance Management System (SAMS) for every senior consumer, with registration information and nutritional assessment
  • Complete 48-page SAMS assessment for all Home Delivered Meals
  • Responsible for all correspondence
  • Conduct once yearly in-home assessments for Home Delivered Meals and 6 months follow-up by phone
  • Keep communication open with Corps Officer regarding any improvements, problems, or developments that happen in the Senior Center
  • Maintains the confidentiality of clients, and programs.
  • Has respect and consideration for the people being served.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in the organization of workflow. Able to perform duties independently, with minimal need for direct supervision.
  • Demonstrates the ability to interact in a positive and helpful manner with clients, visitors, contract staff, volunteers, and co-workers.
  • Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude at the workplace and towards the job.
  • Projects a good image in dealing with the public and its clients. Is willing to make an extra effort to help build a quality and caring senior program.

Qualifications

  • Compassion and understanding for working with Senior Citizens
  • A willingness to learn and be a team player
  • Bilingual (English – Spanish)
  • Training in the geriatric field
  • Experience with Seniors
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Computer programs preferred
