Senior Accountant-Accounts Payable:

The Salvation Army, Syracuse Area Services is presently conducting a search for a Senior Accountant that will assist the Director of Finance with the administration and management of revenue items, accounts payables, and grants.  

The role of a Senior Accountant is to work with their assigned internal customers.  SA's are assigned to specific Departments/Programs where they are responsible for managing the contracts awarded to specific programs.  Review of newly awarded contracts, create and monitoring of budgets, billing and will work with Department Heads on the understanding and spend of each contract awarded to their Programs.  The SA-AP manages this two person Team and will report directly to the Director of Finance.  This position is considered Full-Time Exempt with access to our full benefit offerings at the completion of 90 days of employment. Compensation depends on the education and work related experience.

Responsibilities

Listed below is an overview of the essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Billings and Financial Reporting.
  • Relative to above reports cross train staff for greater understanding of specific rules of each grantor. Keep appropriate non-finance staff advised as to status of grant process and steps required to complete grant requirements.
  • Work with program directors to generate the financial information necessary for grant renewals and initial proposals.
  • Reconcile account balances for the purpose of maintaining accurate account balances and complying with related policies, practices, and regulations. Assist with the preparation of the agency budget and financial statements.
  • Journal Entries: Monthly preparation, review, edit and accurate completion by the monthly deadline.
  • Review Purchase Journal for errors and make necessary corrections.
  • Prepare and enter re-class/correction entries.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reconciling the Accounts Payable netting process.
  • Renumeration of all Accounts Payable per payment terms as agreed.
  • Corporate Credit Card: will code and account for all applicable receipts.
  • The direct Supervision of the Accounts Payable/Accountant.
  • Petty Cash: refill and reconciliation of petty cash. Ensure proper amount of petty cash available for access on a daily basis.

Qualifications

Special Skills, Certificates, Licenses:

  • Work experience as an Accountant
  • Salary:  to $62,500K depending on experience
  • Minimum of an Associates Degree with five (5) years of accounting experience
  • Bachelor's Degree with two (2) years of accounting experience
  • Non-profit industry experience preferred and a big plus!
  • Experience with Grant and/or Contract Accounting preferred.
  • Advanced skill level with Excel
