Overview

Title: Maintenance Technician                                                                       

Location: Wilkes-Barre

Reports To: Corps Officer/Resident Program Director

Availability: Immediate

Schedule: Part-Time Plus; 24 hours per week as scheduled  

Salary and Grade: $15.00 per hour; Non-Exempt, 74

Position Overview:

The Maintenance person will perform duties that ensure the property is SAFE, and in an orderly condition.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:  

  • Maintenance and repairs and communicate those needs to the Corps Officer.
  • Make routine repairs and perform general building maintenance for both the Corps as directed.
  • Maintain property exterior and grounds around Corps including building exterior, grass, shrubs, litter, etc.
  • Guide and assist volunteers in projects inside/outside the building as directed by the Corps officer.
  • Drive corps vehicles as needed (food bank, transport kettle workers, and other assigned trips).
  • Properly maintain floors and floor coverings following industry-standard practices and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Ensure that all SDS sheets are up to date and maintained according to OSHA requirements and available for auditing/inspection/use by the corps and Kirby staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure that all containers in the building are properly labeled with the contents according to OSHA Standards.
  • Follow established/safe procedures for mixing and use of chemicals and use of power equipment.
  • Patch, paint, clean, and perform minor repairs as directed by Corps Officer.
  • Work with the Corps Officer to maintain a current inventory of all Corps, and Kirby furnishings and equipment.

Qualifications

Requirements:    

  • Possess a valid PA driver’s license.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in cleaning and general maintenance.
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Capable of supervising maintenance staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, both internal and external to The Salvation Army.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible to a changing work environment and job requirements.
  • Must demonstrate an awareness of deadlines and a sense of urgency when accomplishing tasks of time-sensitive nature.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse. meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
