Overview

Position: Monitor III
Location/Department: Norristown/Housing Department
Availability of Position: Immediately
Schedule: 2FT/2PT, Temp and On-call opportunities also; must be available for evening, nights and weekends, various shifts and times.
Reporting Relationship: Lead Monitor
Salary and Grade: $15.00 per hour; 74 Non-Exempt

Function: The Salvation Army’s Norristown Family Residence provides a trauma informed emergency shelter that provides a Safe Haven for homeless families and children throughout the County. The facility is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with trained staff who work diligently to meet the basic needs of the clients. Maintain shelter cleanliness by assigning chores to program participants.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:

  • Enforce house rules using Sanctuary Model practices and in accordance with local operations manual and the local monitor training manual.
  • Remain on floor at all times-exception is to let clients out the front door.
  • Attend to and report violations or incidents as they occur.
  • Prepare and serve meals in accordance with daily meal plans and during the designated mealtimes.
  • Routine custodial functions related to E.H. and the 24-hour sheet.
  • Manage laundry facility and provide laundry services to clients as scheduled.
  • Provide a 6:30am breakfast announcement.
  • Assist clients in remembering and implementing house details/chores at designated chore times.
  • Clerical duties related to direct service including but not limited to 24-hour sheet, client daily report, child food care, chore check sheet, client personal sheet and monitors logbook.
  • Maintain clients’ room sheet and record notes daily.
  • Read, understand and following the instruction of the local operations manual and the monitor training manual.
  • Maintain a working phone number and keep the Emergency Housing Director and Monitor Supervisor up to date with your contact information.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

The Sanctuary Model:

  • Maintain and uphold the principles and commitments of The Sanctuary Model.
  • Attend all relevant and necessary trainings associated with Sanctuary.
  • Complete S.E.L.F. group and exercise safety plan.
  • Attend Community Meetings when possible to reinforce Sanctuary Model with residents.
  • Create and maintain a safe environment for residents, staff, and self.
  • Create and promote a community that respects and embraces multi-cultural diversity.
  • Create and promote a non-violent and non-judgmental environment.
  • Share behavioral patterns and concerns with residents especially concerning children.
  • Assist residents with identifying stressors through assessment.
  • Assist with processing loss.

 

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Human services experience preferred
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
