Department: Shelter

Availability of Position: Immediate

Schedule: Full time - 40 hours Overnight 11:00 p.m. 7:00 a.m. Tuesday thru Saturday

Reporting Relationship: Interim Director

Salary and Grade: $12 per hour; Grade 71, Non-Exempt

 

Position Overview: The Monitor will be responsible for the safety and security of the emergency shelter guests and the permanent housing program guests. The Monitor will track the entry and exit of all guests and visitors, they are responsible for maintaining the condition of the shelter, enforcing rules, general office, clerical and phone work, intakes and exits, cleaning and preparing guest rooms, meal preparation and reporting guest issues to the caseworker.

Responsibilities

Position Description:

  • Understand and enforce Hospitality Rules and Regulations as well as manuals that pertain to one’s responsibilities.
  • Understand and enforce Employee Code of Ethics.
  • Be available to cover shifts as needed i.e., holidays to cover the sick vacation etc.
  • Orient and train newly hired monitors.
  • Report to the Director or Caseworker any resident infractions or concerns.
  • Provide security and coverage at the front-desk.
  • Pass out daily mail to guests. Complete meal logs for guests who eat at shelter.
  • Serve meals, clean and maintain all common areas of the shelter including the kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Complete laundry as needed.
  • Provide residents with toiletries, bed linens and blankets as needed. Clean out resident rooms as they exit shelter. Read daily log books and complete daily tasks and responsibilities as indicated.
  • Document in logbook any important events or supplies needed.
  • Answer all telephone calls, take accurate messages, and forward to appropriate individual.  

Qualifications

Requirements:      

  • High school Diploma, GED and at least 2 years working with people. College degree and human service experience is a plus.
  • Ability to function as a team member. Excellent communication, listening, reading and writing skills.
  • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks prior to employment: Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check along with renewals every five years. Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
