Department: Music

Availability of Position: Immediate

Schedule:   Full time; Flexible hours. Evenings and some weekends required.

Reporting Relationship: Divisional Music Director

Salary and Grade: $53,000/ Exempt, Grade 11

Position Overview

The purpose of the Divisional Dance & Timbrels Specialist is to teach, train and expand corps and divisional dance & timbrel ministries within the Pendel Division in coordination with the Divisional Music Director.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:  

  • Develop individual and dance & timbrel instruction in corps, regions, and divisionally to include leadership training and development of corps dance & timbrel groups. The expectation is a minimum of three corps visits per week, plus the regional or divisional rehearsals when in session. Mileage compensation for business use of personal vehicle will be made.  Employment does not include home corps rehearsals. A minimum of 1 day a week will be spent at DHQ.
  • Identify and develop leaders of corps dance & timbrel groups.
  • Lead the Pendel & Youth Dance groups and oversee Prep Academy Dance.  Oversee all Divisional levels of Timbrel Brigades (Pendel, Youth & Prep).
  • Be creative in the way that dance and timbrels can be combined with other music groups, (worship team, brass band etc). Coordinate with leaders of other groups for live accompaniment.
  • Assist with publicity and implementation of Divisional, Regional and Territorial events/camps (including regional leadership training, Star Search, Ladore Music & Arts camp, Conservatories, Youth Councils, Family Camp, Program Camps etc.)  Attend and support said events.
  • Participate on Divisional Music and Arts Committee and any other committees as assigned.
  • Maintain a monthly itinerary which will be reviewed and approved by the Divisional Music Director in advance, and accurately reported after each month. Because of the nature of this position (evening & weekend responsibilities) the hours are considered flexible.
  • Conducts self always in a manner that reflects credit on The Salvation Army and encourages others to do the same.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Divisional Music Director or Divisional Program Secretary.

Qualifications

Requirements:    

  • Bachelor’s degree in Dance or Theatre preferred.
  • Must be an active Salvationist and soldier at a corps in the division.
  • Proven experience in corps dance / timbrel leadership.
  • Valid PA or DE Driver’s license with willingness to travel.  
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Willingness to teach children and adults.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
