Overview

Position: Assistant Divisional Music Director

Department: Music             

Availability of Position: Immediate 

Schedule:  Full-Time (including evenings and weekend as needed to fulfill the duties of the position and approved by the Divisional Music Director.

Reporting Relationship:  Divisional Music Director 

Salary and Grade: $55,000; Exempt, Grade 11

Position Overview:

The purpose of the Assistant Divisional Music Director is to teach, train, and build corps music and arts ministries within the PenDel Division, with a focus on implementing Corps music schools and/or regional gatherings.  To encourage Corps Officers and support them with resources for Sunday worship.  To help identify and train leaders for music leadership positions within the Corps.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:  

  • Assist the Divisional Music Director in all areas of music education and performance as requested.
  • Develop individual and group instruction in selected corps in the PenDel division determined at the start of each program season. This includes making weekly, bi-weekly or periodic visits as needed.  Where appropriate, coordinate teacher training, development of corps music sections, and coordination of music schools or nurturing corps partnerships of music instruction.
  • The Assistant DMD will be located in the western half of the division and will be expected to travel to DHQ a minimum of 1 day per week and teach a minimum of 3 evenings per week at corps.
  • Help the PenDel division move forward in culturally relevant expressions of worship.
  • Assist the Divisional Music Director in developing music leadership within the division.
  • Give support to equipment and music needs for Divisional Music & Arts days. Lead or Assist with any Divisional ensembles as assigned.
  • Give leadership support to summer events: Music & Arts Camp and Conservatories at Camp Ladore, including active participation in and development of the programming and scheduling.
  • Maintain the Pendel Music & Arts Social Media pages, bringing awareness to programs / events that are happening at Divisional, Corps and Territorial levels as related to Music & Arts.
  • Assist in the Music Department as needed with instrument and instructional material inventories, mailing lists, and other databases as needed.
  • Assist with publicity, recruitment, and implementation of Divisional, Regional, and Territorial events/camps (including regional leadership training, Star Search, Territorial Convocations, Ladore Music & Arts Camp, Conservatories, Family Camp, Youth Councils, Program Camps, etc.), attend and support these events.
  • Participate in department meetings, Divisional Music & Arts Committee, and any committees related to music and events. Prepare the minutes for Divisional Music & Arts Committee meetings.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the Divisional Music Director/Music Department as required.
  • Maintain a monthly itinerary which will be reviewed and approved by the Divisional Music Director in advance. Because of the nature of this position the hours are considered flexible.  A minimum of 40 hours should be worked each week, but not limited to 40.
  • Conduct self always in a manner that reflects the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army and encourages others to do the same.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Divisional Music Director and / or Divisional Program Secretary.

Qualifications

Requirements:    

  • An active, uniformed Salvationist who will soldier at a Corps with the division.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music/Music Education a minimum, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong background in brass, expertise in piano, guitar, contemporary worship or creative arts (dance/drama) an advantage.
  • Exhibits proven experience in corps music program leadership.
  • Valid PA or DE Driver’s license with willingness to travel (vehicle provided)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Good computer skills.  Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sibelius/Finale. Graphic design / video editing skills an advantage.
  • Willingness and ability to teach both children and adults.
  • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearances and background checks prior to employment: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 along with renewals every five years.
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
