Overview

Position: Operations Manager                                        

Location: The Salvation Army-York, PA

Availability of Position: Immediate                             

Schedule: Full-Time; 40 hours per week   

Reports to: Primary: Area Coordinator                      

Salary and Grade: $45,000-60,000 per year; 15 Exempt

Position Overview: To assist the Area Coordinator in achieving the goals and purposes of The Salvation Army’s programs and service by providing administrative support in the daily operations of The Salvation Army in York. This includes facilities management, human resource management and business management.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:  

Facilities Management: Oversee building maintenance (including HAVC, electric, roofing, plumbing and carpentry) ensuring building is operating in a safe and orderly manner; Oversee grounds maintenance (including parking lots, sidewalks, outside stairwells and lawns) ensuring property is safe and well maintained; Oversee fleet maintenance ensuring vehicles are regularly serviced and repaired in a timely manner; Develop and institute preventative maintenance plan for building, grounds and vehicles; Manage and review service contracts; Schedule and oversee service contractors needed for repairs and upkeep; Recommend maintenance, mechanical, electrical, and facility design modifications; Ensure custodial staff functions in a productive manner; Identify opportunities for community service volunteers to participate in building and property upkeep; Liaison with community groups using the facility; Work closely with Advisory Board Property Committee.

Personnel Management: Advertise available positions and assist department heads and program directors in screening eligible applicants; Conduct interviews with Area Coordinator, department heads and program directors as appropriate; Participate in personnel discussions and evaluations; Work with department heads and program directors to ensure that personnel policies are communicated to staff and adhered to; Work with department heads and program directors to handle personnel problems that may arise; Directly supervise Operations Staff and set and monitor goals and objectives for them; Ensure all paperwork for hiring or separation is properly filled out and filed; Confer with labor relations managers to develop internal communications that keep employees informed of company activities; Plan and implement opportunities to continually improve employee morale.

Business Management: Help develop and administer annual budget; Monitor monthly income and expense, recommending areas for improvement; Complete and submit reports and correspondence as needed for United Way, SECA, CFA, EFSP and other funding sources; Assure that proper statistics are kept for programs and that timely reports are available for the Advisory Board, DHQ, United Way and other funding agencies; Be involved in the development and planning for new programs and services; Prepare reports and make presentations at Advisory Board meetings as needed; Work with appropriate committee chairs in preparing for Finance and Development committee meetings; Meet with appropriate committees and provide information regarding programs and needs; Confer with other managers to identify trends and key group interests and concerns or to provide advice on business decisions; Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management or related field.
  • At least 7 years of general business management experience to include HR, budgets, and operations or at least 5 years of facility management experience.
  • Prior experience working with or for a nonprofit organization is required.
  • Must possess good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Good organization skills with an attention to detail.
  • Intermediate level computer skills (Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, or comparable email communications/calendar system.)
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to build consensus and work in partnership with all departments and outside organizations.
  • High level of honesty and integrity, high moral character required
  • Understanding of Cultural Competency and Diversity.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every 5 years thereafter. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse H1story Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
