Overview

Position: Afterschool Coordinator

Location: Boyertown Corps

Availability of Position: Immediate            

Schedule:  Part Time Plus - Up to 29 hours weekly

Reporting Relationship:  Corps Officer

Salary and Grade: $15.00 - $17.00

Position Overview:

The Afterschool Program Coordinator’s primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, facilitating The Salvation Army’s Youth Programs (Homework help program and Music program). Developing and maintaining relationships with the local school district and other originations to insure program effectiveness.

Responsibilities

Perform instruction of students individually and in groups using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, interactive learning, object lessons and demonstrations. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet varying needs and interests of students. Establish clear objectives for all lessons and projects and communicate those clearly to students. In concert with the director and school staff, ensure that curriculum supports that of the schools the children attend. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining classroom order. Consult with parents and teachers regarding student, family and school needs for effective service delivery. Observe and evaluate student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. Provide materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate for learning activities and in imaginative play. Enforce established policies and rules governing all aspects of the programs. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Use computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by law, policies, regulations and funders. Meet with the school staff to determine measurable progress and individual student needs. Prepare reports, statistical data, etc. as required. Assist in recruiting, training and supervising volunteers. Ensure the safety and security of students, facilities and Salvation Army property at all times. Provide timely, regular feedback to the supervisor regarding curriculum implementation via verbal, email, written lesson plan notes, compiled data/statistics/outcomes, etc. Participate in special events as needed. Teach music and arts.

Qualifications

AAS or higher a related field preferred with a minimum of 2 years related experience working with children or HS diploma/equivalent with 5 years of relevant experience of working with children. Flexibility to work assigned shifts as required to meet program needs and flexibility to change as needed. Must possess excellent organizational skills, patience, creativity and love for families. Effective time management and strong organization skills are required. Computer skills required (email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet research)
