To assist in the development and direction of a program of activities for the participants of the Recovery Center.  The assistant will work directly with the participants in the Drop in Recovery Center that promotes socialization, education, and wellness with the overall goal of preventing homelessness.

  • Responsible for the development, planning, implementation and promotion of all activities programming, which is outcome-based and incorporates the needs of homeless individuals including daily ongoing supervision of activities staff
  • Responsible for the development, completion, and monitoring of all required paperwork relative to programming, including the production, monthly agency statistics, participant recreational assessment, and consult with the program coordinator on all related fiscal aspects 
  • Ensure compliance with consumer and program/grant outcomes and requirements
  • Responsible for providing a program orientation and tour for all new consumers and completion of all related paperwork, assisting homeless individuals with accessing desired activities
  • Provide support and direction for the CQI (continuous quality improvement) activities of the department including, processing consumer suggestions and complaints, conducting focus groups, and related documentation, orienting consumers with program procedures, and scheduling/attending meetings of the peer advisory group
  • Assist with program and service delivery in the event of staff and volunteer shortages including food service and additional duties as assigned
  • Participate in departmental staff, supervision meetings, agency work groups, training and attend outside service plan review meetings as prescribed.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence, as well as integrate understanding into daily responsibilities and participate in meeting the objectives of The Salvation Army, Utica Corps Strategic Plan

• HS Diploma with three to five years of experience in a position related to low income, homelessness and/or recreation; an Associate’s degree is preferred.
• Work consists of moderately complex procedures and tasks where basic analytic ability is required
• Moderate supervision received, combining periods of autonomous work and supervised work
• Current and valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army’s insurance requirements.
• Capacity to perform all physical requirements of the position
