Overview

The Youth Ministries Director will invest in the lives of teens and children, helping them to grow and mature in the walk of holiness.

Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Build solid Christian connections with children and teens that point program participants to Jesus Christ.
  • Develop and maintain programs and ministries that enhance the spiritual and emotional development of children and teens.
  • Provide leadership to our Sunday Children’s Ministry program called Park Kids.
  • Provide leadership to weekly teen ministry programs at our Corps.
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute Vacation Bible School annually.
  • Recruit and train leaders to serve within the Youth Ministries Team.
  • Oversee the process of sending campers to Camp Tecumseh annually, including recruitment, paperwork processing, utilizing Camp Minder, and providing transportation.
  • Plan and lead weekly worship time in the Learning Zone after-school program.
  • Support the Learning Zone program by actively engaging and connecting with children and their families.
  • Develop, plan, and execute weekly character-building programs that reach children and teens, including Music and Arts, Troops, Jr. Soldiers, Corps Cadets, and other similar programs.
  • Create and maintain appropriate boundaries within all youth ministries programs that promote safety.
  • Promote and attend Divisional youth events.
  • Support seasonal activities and special events, such as the annual Christmas/Kettle campaign.
  • Actively support children within Corps programs by attending, encouraging, and supporting their special school and afterschool activities.

Administration

  • Maintain good record keeping according to Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Provide good stewardship by staying within budgets and protecting Corps property and equipment.
  • Follow all Salvation Army KeepSAfe policies to protect children and vulnerable adults.
  • Be an active part of The Salvation Army team in Asbury Park, including involvement in Corps events as requested, promoting other areas of Corps work, and promoting the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Keep work and program areas clean and organized.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Youth Ministry or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of Youth Ministry experience or related experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Strong technological proficiency, with specific experience in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong management and organizational skills, with particular attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and relate professionally with other staff, youth, and the community.
  • Above-average verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record; must be approved to drive Salvation Army vehicles.
  • Must attend weekly Sunday worship at the Corps.
  • Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army
