Overview

The MSW Student Intern is responsible for assisting and supporting daily operations that the social services program oversees throughout the Greater New York Division. This is a non-clinical, mezzo level social work practice position which involves aiding in the development and implementation of social service initiatives at the local and small community levels.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the launch, promotion, organization, and maintenance of the Opioid Overdose Prevention Program
  • Attend and participate in the facilitation of virtual and in-person trainings, workshops, and information sessions
  • Attend field visits with Coordinator of Community Engagement & Expansion to Salvation Army facilities to ensure compliance of Social Services’ programs and grants
  • Attend field visits with Coordinator of Community Engagement & Expansion to colleges/universities, and other community partners to build rapport and expand existing programs.
  • Aid in administrative tasks
  • Help identify funding resources through Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and other potential grant applications
  • Participate in Social Services Department Team meetings
  • Help identify social service needs within the department and Salvation Army facilities and aid in solution finding
  • Help identify and keep record of community resources or referrals from outside agencies/organizations 

Qualifications

  • Current MSW graduate student (1st or 2nd year is acceptable) at an accredited college/university.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other

  • Awareness of and sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of populations
  • Excellent time management and organizational
  • Basic knowledge of computer skills in Microsoft, Excel, and fiscal
  • Available weekdays during normal business hours; On-site, field, and virtual availability will be required.
